    Types of Residential Roofing
Residential roofs can be made of all kinds of materials such as metal, asphalt shingles, wood shingles, and many more. Luckily here at Roofer Ohio, we are equipped and trained to work with any type of roof! Whether you need, installation, repair, or scheduled maintenance, give us a call and we will take care of you.
    Asphalt Shingle Roofing

    ASPHALT

    Shingle Roofing
Composition asphalt shingles have been the most common material for residential roofing since 1930. It’s definitely easy to see why. Asphalt shingles come in many styles and colors for a great-looking roof that fits your home.
Asphalt is also the most affordable roofing material and may last for 12 to 17 years with maintenance. Another benefit of asphalt shingles? They’re easy to install which means lower installation costs for your new roof.
We install and repair asphalt shingle roofs with upfront pricing and a dedication to reliable work. If your existing shingle roof is showing signs of wear, our residential roofing experts will assess the damage and make recommendations. If repairs are cost-effective and likely to increase the life of your roof, we will give you an estimate. Common repairs include replacing missing shingles and repairing flashing. If repairs are unlikely to be successful or a new roof is more cost-effective, we will let you know.
There’s another advantage to asphalt shingles. If you are concerned about the cost of replacing your roof, an overlay is possible. This involves adding a second layer of shingles on your existing roof. An overlay can cost about 25% less than roof replacement as it does not involve tearing off the existing roof. There are downsides to consider, though. If your roof deck is damaged, an overlay will hide the problem. The overlay will not last as long as a brand-new roof, either. It will also add more weight to your roof
and this may not be wise in areas with heavy snow.

    Wood Shingle

    and Shake Roofing
There are dozens of ways to customize your roof.
Asphalt shingles account for most of all residential roofing in Ohio, but many homeowners prefer the look of a wood roof. Wood shingles and wood shakes are made from pine, western red cedar, and other tree species.
The main noticeable difference between the two is the shape. Shingles are sawn rather than split. Shingles have a uniform thickness but shakes are thicker at the butt end for a tapered shape. Shingles are sawn on both sides for an even taper.
Wood shingles are more affordable than wood shakes, but both cost more than asphalt shingles. In general, the most affordable wood shingles cost as much as high-end asphalt. Along with its unbeatable beauty, wood offers very good
    longevity compared with asphalt shingles.
Wood shake or shingle roofs can last up to 30 years. Wood is also much more resistant to impact and wind than asphalt and less likely to be damaged by falling branches.

    Residential Metal Roofing

    Residential

    Metal Roofing
Residential metal roofing is growing in popularity due to its beauty, versatility, and very long life. While asphalt roofs typically don’t last longer than 20 years and begin to break down right away, metal can last a lifetime. Metal roofs even come in a huge array of colors and styles. Along with bright red or blue metal panels, you can choose an earth-toned metal that resembles shingles, shakes, or tile. Metal roofs have come a long way from their industrial origins with many benefits to offer Ohio homeowners.
Along with a variety of styles and colors, metal roofs can be made from different types of metal. Aluminum is very lightweight and never rusts, but it can be costly. Galvalume is an iron and carbon alloy that’s coated with aluminum and zinc for greater resistance to corrosion. Residential steel roofing is most popular in Ohio.
Galvanized steel is available in many profiles like metal shingles and standing seam roofs. It costs less than most metals — especially luxury options like copper — and offers great durability.

    Roof Repair
Even the best roof needs occasional repairs. If your roof is showing its age or you have suffered the effects of a bad storm, we are here to help. We will respond promptly to survey the damage and get your roof fixed quickly.
Our roofing contractors perform all types of residential roof repair. With asphalt shingle roofs, the most common problem we see is missing or damaged shingles. As long you are only missing a few shingles and they aren’t located on a critical area like the valleys, replacing the shingles is a cost-effective fix. We also repair fascia damage. The fascia is the flat vinyl or wood covering the end of the rafters. Fascia damage needs to be addressed as soon as possible as it gives water an easy entrance. The damage will also spread without attention and allow water under your roof.
Some types of roof damage are more serious than others. If you notice chimney damage or problems with your flashing, call us right away. Flashing, or the sheet metal around your chimney, dormers, and roof vents, keeps water out of your home. When the flashing is damaged or missing, water quickly enters the home and gets under the roof.
    Residential Roof Repair
You should also call us right away if you are dealing with a leak, no matter how minor. Not all leaks are caused by the roof, as the problem may be the flashing or a clogged roof vent.
Along with routine roof repairs, we also offer emergency repair service. When you are suffering from a major leak or storm damage to your roof, you can count on our residential roofing contractors to arrive quickly. We will be there within an hour of your call for emergency tarping to protect your home. As soon as weather allows, more permanent repairs or roof replacement will be performed.

Have questions about residential roofing?Find Your Answer Below
Have questions about reroofing or roof repairs? We’re here to help! Contact our residential roofing contractors today with any questions you may have or to request an estimate. Here are some common questions we receive to get you started.
How do I know for sure I need a new roof?
There are many signs that your roof has reached the end of its life. If you have a pitched shingle roof, you may see one or more of the following:
    • Problems with the flashing
    • Sagging roof. This can be caused by age or water damage.
    • Missing, bald, or damaged shingles. A couple of missing shingles
    • Granules in the gutters. This indicates your shingles have lost their protective layer. They are no longer protecting your home.
Our residential roofing contractors will assess your roof and let you know if repairs will help or if it’s time for a new roof. Depending on the age of your roof and the damage,
    repairs can extend its life.
Will I need to replace the gutters as well?
If your gutter system is in good condition, it does not need to be replaced with the roof. You may want to consider replacing old or damaged gutters at the same time as the roof, though. This is because the gutters and roof work together to direct water away from your home. Keep in mind roof tear off and replacement produces a lot of roof debris. This can clog your gutters. Not all residential roofing contractors take the time we do to clean the gutters after installing your roof.
How long does a new roof installation usually take?
The time it takes to re-roof your home depends on the pitch and size of your home. In general, roof installation takes about 4 days to tear off the old roof and install a new roof. If you are getting a roof overlay or a second layer of shingles without tear off, the installation will take 1-2 days.
When is the best time to replace my roof?
Sometimes you don’t have a choice when your roof needs to be replaced. If possible, we recommend planning ahead. Have your roof inspected annually so you know when it’s getting ready to fail. Your roof can be replaced any time of the year when it isn’t raining, snowing, or extremely cold. Still, consider that roofing companies are very busy during the late summer and fall. During the busy season, you may need to wait a month or longer to find residential roofing contractors who have time for your project.
If you can, the slow season is the best time to have your roof replaced. During the spring or even winter, you’ll find residential roofing companies have the time to devote to your roof right away. You are also likely to get a lower price on your roof replacement during the slow season. Due to supply and demand with contractors and the fact that roofing manufacturers raise prices during busy months, you can save 5-15% by reroofing during the slow season.
